Edging Service

Due to the successful launch of our cutting service, we decided to upgrade and invest in a new state of the art PC controlled Brandt Edge banding machine. We took delivery of this machine in January 2009, and we now have the capability of cutting and edging to the highest standard possible, with the added benefit of our pre-milling unit.

Even if on the rare occasion a chip occurs whilst cutting or handling the MFC, if the panel is to be edged, we always run our pre-milling unit to machine off the thickness of the edging tape we are applying. For example if we are applying a 2mm edge, 2mm will be machined from the edge of the panel to eliminate chipping or minor damage that can occur.

PVC/ ABS for Melamine Faced Chipboard/ MDF

Our machine has been specified with 2mm tooling, which allows us to apply from 0.4mm up to 2mm thick PVC/ABS edging. We can edge panels from 8mm – 60mm thick. We can corner round panels from 8mm – 38mm thick. We have 3 finishing stations, profile scrapers, glue scrapers and buffers, this allows us to ensure that all the panels have a smooth and clean finish.

Preparation tape for MDF

As much as we all love to use MDF, the main problem is sanding and sealing the edges. Over the years we have tried many methods to try and solve this problem, we now have the answer. By choosing to apply preparation tape to the edges it covers the edge, eliminating any need for sanding or sealing. Also you can keep the sharpness of the edges and the size of the panel by not having to sand away material to achieve a smooth finish. There are 2 options, we can apply this square as the edge would be if had just been cut or, we can machine a 2mm radius to each edge and the corners of the panel. This tape can be painted over in both water based and solvent based paints or clear varnishes and lacquers.
